The year started out with the 5K resolution run held by 3D racing at Jaycee park in Cape coral. My placing was first overall female, fun race, although I went a little off track ..lol!
One week later was the Walt Disney World half marathon, wow, Florida was making the history books with record low temps, the race started out with snow flurries and sleet, with a nice freezing cold head wind..bbrrrr! Despite not being used to the temperature, I felt quite well prepared and achieved a PR of 1.27.04. Not quite reaching my goal but I was very happy to place in such a large event, with over 17,000 runners participating, including some wonderful elites.
One week later I ran the Naples Daily News Half Marathon, not really expecting too much as I didn’t have much recovery time, I was thrilled to place 3rd in my age group, with 12,000 runners participating, my time being consistant with Disney being 1.27.45, temperatures were totally different, high humidity.
One week after Naples the Fort Myers Track club held the Calusa BUG 5K at the Nature center, legs still a little tight from two half marathons I ran this race to get the legs churning again. Delightfully placing first female overall.
One week after the Calusa 5K was the Miami ING half Marathon, 18,000 runners were out there that Sunday morning , humidity was at 90%. I ran quite comfortably, not expecting my body to make any amazing records, although I still had the thought in the back of my mind , wouldn’t a PR be nice, lol, I think most of us have this thought. I tried not to get too nervous about going over the causeway bridge at the beginning of the race, watching the amazing disabled athletes amazingly working hard in their wheelchairs with their powerful arms. I took advantage of most of the water stops and tried to keep a good pace. I have to say I was a little disappointed with my time at the end, 1.29.03 but was thrilled when I discovered I had placed 1st in my age group and 10th female overall.
Now it’s February!!!! Bring it on!!!
